Diploma in Dairy Farm Production

Purpose overview

The Diploma in Dairy Farm Technologies is a work based qualification designed for new employees within the dairy farming sector. The main objective of the qualification is to offer opportunities to prove competence of industrial performance, knowledge and understanding and to recognize the ability of individuals working in the sector.

Intended Learning Outcomes

After the completion of this Qualification the trainees are expected to be able to:

  • Perform 16 health checkpoints in the dairy farm’s health section.
  • Administer IV treatments, mastitis grading, milk and blood sampling, and maintain records.
  • Identify, isolate, and minimize hazards when handling cattle.
  • Monitor the health of cows and calves after birth, including navel dipping and ear tagging.
  • Conduct health monitoring, feeding, disease identification, and dehorning of newborn calves.
  • Use a dehorner and ear tag pliers for tagging.
  • Detect heat in cows and perform pregnancy diagnoses.
  • Perform artificial insemination (AI) using AI equipment.
  • Identify diseases based on symptoms and maintain records for treated young stock.
  • Understand feeding ingredient grading and mix according to daily requirements.
  • Operate in a milking parlor.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations, solve algebraic expressions, and interpret data using graphs.
  • Demonstrate basic biology concepts, including microbial growth, enzymes, and aseptic techniques.
  • Use lab equipment for related activities.
  • Organize files, search for information, and use Microsoft Office for documents.
  • Interact effectively with industry professionals and explain equipment usage.
  • Identify common vocabulary in the Animal Production field.

Entry Requirement

  • Admission to the diploma in Dairy Farm Production does not require any prior qualification or any experience of working in Animal Sciences. 
  • However, the trainees should have at least completed high school with good results in English, Biology, and Chemistry minimum 80% marks
  • Age 18-22 years
  • Pass Admission test and interview
