Purpose overview

In the Refrigeration Technology Program, the trainee undergoes a practical program to understand and read the wiring and controls diagrams, fabrication and bending of copper pipes, methods and position for brazing of copper pipes, properly use of multi-meter to check the winding of compressor and fan motor and other components, fabrication of steel frame of the Refrigeration Units by using the arc welding machines and cutting tools, identify the names and functions of tools required in Refrigeration, troubleshooting of Electrical Components, Recovery of Freon from the Refrigeration System and discuss to the trainees the effects of releasing the Freon into the atmosphere, the procedure of pressure/lead testing using inert gas, good procedure for vacuuming the Refrigeration System prior for charging the Freon, the quantity of Freon charging to the Refrigeration Unit as per Manufacturer’s Recommendation and Testing & Commissioning the Refrigeration Unit as per Company Requirements. 

Intended Learning Outcomes

After the completion of this Qualification the trainees are expected to be able to:
  • Select, use, clean of tools and equipment’s in the Refrigeration Specialization
  • Apply the safety while working in the workshop by providing all the necessary firefighting equipment available and remove all
  • combustible materials near working area
  • Able to make measuring the length of copper pipe required in the fabrication and bending using the tools
  • Able to identify all the tools required to use in Refrigeration
  • Set up the arc welding equipment for the fabrication of steel frame of the Refrigeration Units
  • Able to perform installation of Split-type and Window Type Air Conditioning Units and replaced damaged components
  • Able to recover the Freon from the Refrigeration Units, leak testing, charging of Freon and repair of components of the
  • Fridge’s Unit, Window and Split-type units and Thermoking and Carrier Transport Refrigeration Units
  • Able to identify the names of Freon through color coding
  • Understanding the Properties of Refrigerant
  • Able to perform the procedure of checking the winding of compressors and fan blower motor
  • Able to perform the reading and troubleshooting of Electrical Wiring and Controls Diagram
  • Able to distinguish and find the faults of Refrigeration Units through the noise created by the components
  • Able to perform the necessary troubleshooting works while working in the remote worksite
  • Able to perform the Refrigeration Preventive Work activities individually, in Fridge’s Units, Window & Split-type Air Conditioning Units, Thermoking & Carrier Transport Refrigeration Units
  • Able to do troubleshooting works of Thermoking and Carrier Transport Refrigeration Unit
  • Able to do overhauling of Engine and Compressor of Transport Refrigeration Units, like Thermoking Model 100 MD and Carrier 150F/250F & 250 Oasis Model
  • Perform mathematical calculations related to engineering
  • Apply the Physics concept and laws to learn and progress in Automotive Field
  • Organize files & folders and use Microsoft office applications for creating documentations for their academic and professional requirements
  • Interact with people within the industry/field
  • Describe an industry related situation to someone who is entitled for that
  • Explain about relevant equipment and their usages in the concerned work ambience
  • Identify different vocabulary and expressions from an English conversation that are commonly used in the Engineering field

Entry Requirement

  • Students who are having Secondary School Certificate with minimum 80% marks
  • Age 18-22 years
  • Pass Admission test and interview
